Saturday April 25, 2009 - during the day, we’ll be at The MIT Conference on Low Frequency Vibration. Bass to blur your vision. Hosted by Bassic, MIT and Gallaudet University (a school for the deaf in DC) have collaborated to help the deaf feel music… Acting as a silent speaker, a raised floor at MIT’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies will be activated to insert low-frequency vibrations into the space of architecture. The floor will be used alternately as a platform, instrument, and stage for an event in three parts.
In the first part, the floor will be used as a platform on which to hold a dialog (in speech and sign) between artists, designers, scientists and students. In the second part, the floor will be used as an instrument in a workshop on resonant vibrations. In the third part, the floor will become a stage for performances and a silent dance party. This project is part of an investigation of the politics of experience.
Performing, among others is DJ Pandai’a for Bassic!
then at night: it’s The Come Up… Big Digits w/Ghostdad, Brek. One, Durkin
@ Spontaneous Celebrations, JP
super secret after party w/Yes&No <because in Boston, we need to keep the after parties secret
Sunday, April 26, 2009 - My friend Ben Fowlie brought the film The Way We Get By down to SXSW this year and it won the Special Jury Award, so I am going to its only screening as part of IFFB at The Brattle, at noon.
Ben founded the Camden International Film Festival, now in its 5th year. He has asked Bunce to organize a few of the events for this year’s fest, Oct 1-4. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Ben and CIFF, and I’m stoked to get back up to Camden (which if you don’t know, is a small art fueled, heaven-on-earth coastal Maine town). We will be keeping you posted with CIFF updates, parties, screening schedules etc.
then at night - Herra Terra open for Shiny Toy Guns, Downstairs at the Middle East.
Monday, April 27 2009 - Bat For Lashes at The Paradise. FUCKING POSTPONED.
it is with heavy heart that I say: fuck this.
Bat For Lashes have cancelled all but 3 shows on their east coast US tour (and of course I would travel but of course they are sold out). She’s still doing NYC and Philly, so she’s not sick, and she is the cover of this week’s Phoenix which hit stands on Thursday, so me thinks they didnt sell enough tix to make it worth the trip and finally pulled the plug… Boston, I love you, but sometimes I just want to slap you…
Well I guess this gives me the opportunity to get to The ICA to see Art & Copy, a Doug Pray (Scratch) documentary about advertising, the bizarre craft of reaching toward peoples’ desires, and the artists/salespeople behind all of it, who know you better than you do.
a distant 2nd, but should be sweet.
